The 2nd "Asia - Europe" New Music Festival and The 34th Asian Composers League (ACL) Festival & Conference in Vietnam in 2016, will be held from October 12–18, 2016 in Hanoi capital and Vinh Yen city (Vinh Phuc province), seven days of events aimed at providing enjoyment for a broad variety of audiences, composers and musicians. For this festival, we, the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, are seeking compositions from members from music organizations of countries Asia and Europe.

Time: October 12–18, 2016 (7 days)

Venues: Hanoi capital and Vinh Yen city, Vinh Phuc province.

Performers: Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Choir of Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, Chamber Orchestra of Vietnam National Academy of Music, Military University of Culture and Arts, Choir of the National University of Art Education, famous artists of Vietnam and international…

Eligibility:

1 Only ACL members may submit a piece through their local ACL sections.

Each entrant is allowed to submit one work only.

In any category, playing inside the piano, or any kind of preparation of the piano, is prohibited.

2． The work must be in only one category from the following list:

a) Orchestral works (maximum 15 minutes.)

a-1 2-2-2-2, 4-2-3-1, Perc (3), Pf, Celesta, Harp, Str,

With/without soloist

a-2 “Conductors are Composers” With/without soloist

2-2-2-2, 4-2-3-1, Perc (3), Pf, Celesta, Harp, Str,

Any composer whose piece is selected for this category must have some experience in conducting professional orchestras, because the composer will be asked to conduct his/her own piece in this concert.

 

b) Chamber orchestra

Maximum of 15 performers from the following instruments: fl, ob, cl, bsn, 2 hrn, trp, trb, perc, pf, 2 vn, vla, vc, cb. The maximum duration is 12 minutes, in order to perform as many pieces as possible.

c) Chamber music

c-1. Maximum of 6 performers including oboe and/or clarinet and/or bassoon.

c-2. Maximum of 4 performers including one violin.

c-3. Maximum of 5 performers on Vietnam traditional instruments…

The maximum duration is 12 minutes, in order to perform as many pieces as possible.

d) Piano solo, maximum duration of 12 minutes.

e) The call for scores in the field of electroacoustic music will be released before May 31, 2016.

3．The score, the parts of score along with the title of the work, the composer’s name in English on the cover and the following information (a–k) must be submitted. The information should be written either in English.

a. Name

b. Nationality, date of birth

c. Address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address

d. Title of the work

e. Year composed (pieces composed in or after 2011 are especially encouraged)

f. Duration, instrumentation

g. Biography of composer (maximum 150 words)

h. Program notes (maximum 150 words)

i. Has the work been performed? If yes, where?

j. CD of the work (if available)

k. Photo of the composer

4．The application must reach the secretariat before May 10th, 2016 through each local ACL section.

5．The applicants will be informed of the contest results by June 30, 2016. The individual parts of selected scores should be submitted at a later date (to be announced).

 

* ACL Young Composers Awards Call for Scores (5–8 minutes, maximum 5 performers)

1. Each ACL country will select one Young Composer Representative under the age of 30 (born after October 12, 1986)

Entries must be post marked by May 10th, 2016.

2. The available instruments are as follows: 1 violin, 1 viola, 1 violoncello, 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet, 1 bassoon, 1 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, and 1 saxophone.

3.　The score, along with the title of the work, the composer’s name in English on the cover and the following information (a–k) must be submitted. The information should be written either in English.

a.　Name

b.　Nationality, date of birth(copy of the passport)

c.　Address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address

d.　Title of the work

e.　Year composed

f.　Duration, instrumentation

g.　Biography of composer (maximum 150 words)

h.　Program notes (maximum 150 words)

i.　Has the work been performed? If yes, where?

j.　CD or audio tape of the work (if available)

k. Photo of the composer
